Gifted Education

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools' Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program seeks to inspire and develop inquisitiveness, the love of learning and the individual interests of gifted learners who "show or have the potential for showing an exceptional level of performance in one or more areas of expression" in academic and intellectual areas of learning. A variety of settings, service options, and instructional models and strategies combine to create programming to meet the diverse needs of our gifted learners. Gifted education services are integrated into the regular curriculum and are delivered by the classroom teacher. This requires collaboration between general and gifted educators, which supports the district's mission for equity, excellence and focus on student learning. Students are identified in the areas of literacy, math, or both literacy and math and participate in opportunities that are rigorous and challenging to ensure ongoing academic and intellectual growth.
