Principal's Message for 2/6/17

Some announcements for the week of February 6: 

First, please check your child's backpack on Monday for report cards and grade level newsletters. The report cards are yours to keep, but please sign and return the envelope. As always, if you have questions about your child's progress, please contact his/her teacher.

Second, we hope you will join us on Thursday from 6:00-7:30 PM for Family Fitness Night.  We will have various activities including an opportunity to run the PE Pacer Test, a Pop Up Workout, information about Girls on the Run, and a consultation station to measure your BMI with Nurse Michele. We will also have a raffle for great prizes, so please bring $1 if you'd like to enter. 

Third, please ask your children what they are learning during Black History Month. We are celebrating in many ways and I know our roadrunners would like to tell you about their experiences.

Principal's Message for 2/20/17

Some announcements for the week of February 20:


First, please note that it is time to start thinking about the 2017-18 school year. If you have a rising kindergarten student, please be sure to register him/her at Lincoln Center. Please also note that there is a rising 6th grade parent night at Phillips this Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 PM.


Second, we hope you will take a moment to visit our Famous African Americans Display in the atrium. It is one of the many activities we are doing to celebrate Black History Month and it will be out for a few more weeks.


Third, this is a good time to check the lost and found, which is currently full. Please try to write your child's name in those heavy sweatshirts and coats so that we can return them to their rightful owners.

Principal's Message for 2/13/17

Some announcements for the week of February 13:  


First, we know that Valentine's Day is a very exciting day at school. If your child chooses to bring in cards, please follow the guidelines set by the teacher. Please also remember that we do not celebrate with food, so if your valentines include a treat, we will not eat those at school.


Second, the School Improvement Team (SIT) will meet on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 PM in the media center. In addition to our regular updates, we will share some data from our recent mid-year assessments. As always, SIT meetings are open to the public and attending is a great way to stay informed about school policy.


Third, please remember our safety rules while driving on campus. Specifically, we ask that you not use your cell phone to talk or text while coming or going from the kiss n' go lane.

Principal's Message for 1/30/17

Some announcements for the week of January 30:


First, please note that we will have a delayed opening on Thursday, February 2. Students should arrive at school between 9:25 and 9:50 AM. We appreciate this valuable professional learning time and regret that we cannot provide adequate supervision prior to 9:25.


Second, our Healthy Roadrunner posters contest will end on Tuesday. Any student who wishes to enter should turn one in to Nurse Michele by then.


Third, the student council is sponsoring a team shirt day on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing our students wearing colors or shirts of their favorite teams.


And finally, please note that report cards will not come home on Monday as they had originally been scheduled. Because of the snow and lost teacher workday, we will send them home next week on February 6.

Principal's Message for 1/23/17

Some announcements for the week of January 23: First, please note that we will have 5 days of school this week. The teacher workday that was originally scheduled for Monday has been canceled due to our snow days. Second, we will host a parent information session about our 1:1 digital learning environment on Tuesday, January 24 from 8-9 AM in the media center. If you would like to bring your own laptop or smart phone, please do. We will have plenty of iPads and laptops available as well. And finally, this week marks the beginning of the third quarter of school. We will send home second quarter report cards on Monday, February 6. Thank you for taking the time to read this message. Principal's Message for 1/16/17

Some announcements for the week of January 16.  


First, please note that school is closed on Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. We look forward to seeing your children again on Tuesday.


Second, the Public School Foundation's 5K for Education is set for Saturday, March 18. We hope you will join us for this fun 3-mile walk or jog around UNC's campus. We are also looking for a parent coordinator to assist us in promoting participation. If you are interested, please contact Marne Meredith at school.


Third, we have rescheduled our camp information session for Wednesday, January 18 at 6 PM. We will have childcare and Spanish-speaking interpreters available.


Fourth, please note that Roadrunner Clubs will begin this Thursday, January 19. Please email Ms. Sutton if you are available to volunteer your time with one of our groups.


And finally, the student council is sponsoring a dance for 4th and 5th graders after school on Friday, January 20. The cost is $1 (free for students in the Ephesus After School Program) and students must have a permission slip to attend.

Principal's Message for 1/9/17

Some announcements for the week of January 9:


First, this is a busy week at Ephesus. On Monday, grade level newsletters will come home via email or in your child's backpack. Please also look for a flyer for Ident-A-Kid pictures. If you'd like your child to participate, please send in the form and payment for Wednesday.


On Monday we will also host camp night from 6:00-7:30 PM in the  media center for any parent interested in information and support for summer camp registration and funding.


Second, Wednesday night is PTA spirit night at The Loop at Eastgate. If you dine there from 5-9 PM, please mention Ephesus at the register and we'll receive a portion of the proceeds.


Third, Thursday is a delayed opening. Students may arrive at school between 9:25 and 9:50 AM. We appreciate this valuable professional learning time and regret that we cannot provide adequate supervision of children prior to 9:25.


The School Improvement Team (SIT) and the PTA will host a joint meeting on Thursday as well. It will be from 5:30-7:30 PM in the media center. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Attending is a great way to learn more about each group at Ephesus as well as hear from the architect of our next campus plan project, the 3-5 playground amphitheater. I look forward to seeing you there!


And finally, please ask your children about the Healthy Roadrunner poster contest. This is optional for all students and entries are due on January 31. You can contact Nurse Michele if you have questions.

Some announcements for the week of December 19:

First, please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather this week. We go outside for recess unless the temperature is less than 32 degrees.

Second, please mark your calendars now for our combined PTA and School Improvement Team (SIT) meeting on Thursday, January 12. The topics for discussion include a brief overview of parent involvement on each team, regular updates about the school and PTA business, and a discussion about our comprehensive campus plan. We will meet from 5:30-7:30 PM in the media center and dinner and childcare will be provided. I look forward to seeing you there!

Third, the Student Council is sponsoring wacky/tacky day this Thursday, December 22. It is also the last full day of school prior to break. Please note that the school and office will be closed beginning December 23 and will not open again until January 3. Teachers and staff will not be available via phone or email during this time. We hope you enjoy your break and we look forward to seeing your children again in the new year.

Principal's Message for 12/12/16

Some announcements for the week of December 12. For your convenience, the text of this message can be found on our website in both English and Spanish.

First, please check your child's backpack on Monday for a mid-quarter progress note. This is meant to be a brief snapshot of how your child is doing. As always, if you have specific questions, please contact your child's teacher.

Second, the School Improvement Team (SIT) will meet this Thursday, December 15 from 5:30-7:30 PM in the media center. In addition to our regular updates, we will share information about Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) and Restorative Practices. This meeting is open to the public and attending is a great way to stay involved at Ephesus.

Third, thank you to the Loop Restaurant for sponsoring Ephesus this year. In addition to a financial contribution, the chain is also honoring a teacher of the month. Congratulations to our winners thus far: Ms. Shelton (5th grade), Ms. Greto (3rd grade), and Ms. Adams (EC resource).

And finally, please remember that morning arrival is from 7:25-7:50 AM. If you arrive after that time, you will need to escort your child to the main office to sign in. Dismissal is from 2:30-2:45. Any student here after 2:50 must be signed out in the main office. Please note that if your child has a change in his/her daily plan, you must provide that information to the teacher in writing.

Principal's Message for 12/5/16

Some announcements for the week of December 5. 

First, please check your email or your child's backpack on Monday for the appropriate grade level's monthly newsletter.

Second, we are excited to host our annual book fair this week. It will be open Monday-Friday with extended hours on Thursday evening. We will also host Literacy Night on Thursday from 6:00-7:30 PM. Families are invited to attend information sessions about NC's Read to Achieve Law, annual assessments, promoting writing about reading at home, and rigorous read aloud text discussions. Ms. Sutton and I will read bedtime stories as the students enjoy milk and cookies, too. I encourage you to attend and I encourage all students to wear their pajamas!

Third, we have a delayed opening this Thursday, December 8. Students may arrive at school between 9:25 and 9:50 AM. We appreciate your understanding that this is valuable professional development time for our staff and we cannot provide adequate supervision prior to 9:25.

And finally, the PTA is hosting spirit nights at Moe's at Patterson Place Dec. 7-10. We will send you either an electronic or paper coupon on Monday. If you eat at Moe's and turn it in, we will receive $3 from every meal purchased.
