Roadrunner News

Thank you to the all the parents who helped to make the 4th/5th Grade dance party a big success!  The students had a wonderful time!

5th Grade Move Up Day is June 7th @ 10:00 in the gym, families will be seated on a first come first serve basis.  Thanks to our PTA for serving light refreshments.

June 8th is the last day of school.  Report cards will distributed after 12:00 pm and students will be dismissed at 12:30 pm.

I personally want to thank the students, staff and families for making me feel so welcome over the last 6 months, I have loved being a “Roadrunner”!

We wish all students and their families a safe, relaxing summer!

¡Gracias a todos los padres que ayudaron a que la fiesta de baile de 4to / 5to Grado fuera un gran éxito! ¡Los estudiantes pasaron un tiempo maravilloso!

El día de Move Up de quinto grado es el 7 de junio a las 10:00 en el gimnasio, las familias se sentarán por orden de llegada. Gracias a nuestra PTA por servir refrigerios ligeros.

El 8 de junio es el último día de clases. Las boletas de calificaciones se distribuirán después de las 12:00 p.m. y los estudiantes saldrán a las 12:30 p.m.

Personalmente, quiero agradecer a los estudiantes, el personal y las familias por hacerme sentir tan bien recibidos en los últimos 6 meses, ¡me encantó ser un "Roadrunner"!

¡Deseamos a todos los estudiantes y sus familias un verano seguro y relajante!

April 22nd - Roadrunner News

  • This Thursday April 24th is the last week of clubs.

  • Reminder that  Reading Fair exhibits are due Friday April 27th and will be judged on April 30th and May 1st. Ephesus Reading Fair

  • Spring pictures were sent home Friday 4/20.  Please send in payment or return pictures to school by Tuesday May 1st.  Payments can also be made online, checks should be written to Lifetouch.

  • EOG testing for grades 3-5 will begin on May 29th. We are in need of parent volunteers for EOG proctors! Please consider signing up as a proctor by using this link

  • See you tomorrow on time for school!

Este jueves 24 de abril es la última semana de clubes.

Recordatorio de que las exhibiciones de la Feria de Lectura vencen el viernes 27 de abril y serán juzgadas el 30 de abril y el 1 de mayo. Ephesus Reading Fair

Las fotos de primavera fueron enviadas a casa el viernes 4/20. Por favor envíe el pago o devuelva fotos a la escuela antes del martes 1 de mayo. Los pagos también se pueden hacer en línea, los cheques deben escribirse en Lifetouch.

Some announcements for the week of January 1: 

First, I hope that all of our roadrunners had a relaxing break.  Please remember that school is closed on Monday, January 1. We look forward to seeing everyone again bright and early on Tuesday!

Second, our PBIS character trait for the month of January is kindness. If you are interested, here is an article for parents looking to help instill a sense of kindness in their children.

Principal's Message for 12/18/17

Some announcements for the week of December 18:  

First, please note that we have four full days of school this week. Winter break officially begins on Friday and we will return to school on Tuesday, January 2.

Second, this is a great time to check the lost and found for missing items. Anything still here in January will be donated to the PTA Thrift Shop.

Third, if you are interested, here is an article about maintaining literacy skills during the break from school. Enjoy!

Principal's Message for 12/11/17

Some announcements for the week of December 11.

First, please check your children's Monday folders for their mid-quarter progress notes on Monday. They are yours to keep and as always, if you have questions about your child's progress, please contact the classroom teacher.

Second, we are excited to host the Scholastic Book Fair this week! Please check it out in the media center.

Third, I hope you will join us on Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 PM for Literacy Night. The event will include sessions related to writing about reading, phonics instruction, vocabulary instruction, and online learning platforms. The evening will conclude with Ms. Creamer and Dr. Sutton reading a bedtime story while students enjoy milk and cookies. The book fair will also be open and we encourage all of our students to wear their jammies!

Fourth, the School Improvement Team (SIT) will meet this Thursday from 5:30-7:00 PM in the multi-purpose room. In addition to regular reports, the team will also discuss recent information about district facilities. As always, SIT meetings are open to the public and I encourage you to attend.

Principal's Message 12/4/17

Some announcements for the week of December 4.  

First, the district will hold an information session about the LEAP program this Tuesday, December 5 at 6:30 PM at Smith Middle School. Please also note that the deadline for nominations of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for gifted services has been extended until January 12. If you have questions, please contact our gifted education specialist, Becky Baker, at bbaker@chccs.k12.nc.us.

Second, little hands get very messy in art class. If you are able to donate hand wipes for us to use, please send them directly to Ms. Murphy in the art room.

Third, December's PBIS character trait is optimism. If you are interested, here is an article about teaching your children how to be optimistic. Enjoy!

Principal's Message for 11/20/17

Some announcements for the week of November 20:  

First, please note that we only have two days of school this week. Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, we hope you enjoy the extended break to spend time with family and recharge for the next month of school.

Second, Student Council will sponsor its canned food drive through this Tuesday. All donations can be brought to the classroom teacher or to the main office. 

Third, the PTA is ready to publish its student directory. If you do not want your address and phone number published, please complete this form and send it to school with your child. We will send home paper copies for all families who shared that they prefer to receive information in that manner.

Fourth, please remember to download the Here Comes the Bus app to keep track of your child's morning and afternoon transportation information.

Principal's Message for 11/13/17

Some announcements for the week of November 13:  

First, our calendar is full!

  • On Monday, parents of students in grades 2 and 3 are invited to an information session about the North Carolina Read to Achieve Law. We will meet at 7:30 AM in the media center. If you can't come, but would like more information, please contact Dr. Sutton at dsutton@chccs.k12.nc.us.
  • On Tuesday, we will host our school's tabletop discussion from 5:30-7:00 PM. The purpose of this event is to gather your input for the district's next long range strategic plan. An RSVP is not necessary, but is helpful. Please email Ms. Sherman at asherman@chccs.k12.nc.us to let us know if you can join us.
  • On Wednesday, our School Improvement Team (SIT) will meet at 1:00 in the media center. In addition to our regular updates, we will share information about Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) and Restorative Practices. SIT meetings are always open to the public and I encourage you to attend.
  • On Thursday, please join us for our annual International Festival from 5:00-7:30 PM. Hosted by our PTA, this event will include displays about different countries, musical performances by our students, student artwork, and food trucks. 

Second, the student council is sponsoring a canned food drive from November 13-20. Please consider donating any non-perishable food items to our main office.

Principal's Message for 11/6/17

Some announcements for the week of November 6:  

First, please note the schedule for this week. We have a teacher workday on Tuesday and a holiday on Friday. 

Second, congratulations to our students for turning in 251 pounds of their Halloween candy. As promised, we have earned a spirit week during the week of November 13. 

Third, the PTA is hosting spirit night at Pop's Backdoor Pizza and at Tutti Frutti on Tuesday, November 7. If you eat at one or both places, located by the Durham Post Office on Shannon Rd., our PTA will get a portion of the proceeds. 

Finally, our PBIS character trait for November is gratitude. If you are interested, here is an article about instilling gratitude in our children. Enjoy!
