Important Message About EOGs

posted by 311 Ees

The end of grade tests (EOGs) are scheduled as listed. We realize that these dates surround the Memorial Day Holiday, which is unfortunate.

  • May 26 - reading
  • May 30 - math
  • May 31 - science (5th grade only)

Please note that NC law states that EOGs must be taken within the last ten days of the school year. While most students will complete the assessments as scheduled, some will need more time over multiple days, which causes us to schedule sessions right up through the end of the school year. Additionally, we cannot start testing earlier for some students than others, which means everyone has to begin on May 26.

We will not be able excuse absences for educational opportunities on any of the testing days.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to assess our students and comply with state law. Should you have individual questions about how this may impact your family, please email Mrs. Creamer at vcreamer@chccs.k12.nc.us.

While here, he will spend time talking to teachers and visiting a few of our classrooms. We look forward to meeting him!

Third, we will have a School Improvement Team (SIT) meeting on Thursday, March 16 from 5:30-7:30 PM in the media center. In addition to our regular reports, we will share information about the math standards and instruction at each grade level. SIT meetings are always open to the public and attending is a great way to stay involved at Ephesus.

Fourth, the PTA will also host spirit night at Alfredo's Pizza in University Mall this Thursday. If you eat there between 5 and 9 PM, please mention Ephesus at the register and a portion of the evening's proceeds will be donated back to our school.

And finally, we are looking forward to the Public School Foundation's 5k for Education on Saturday, March 18 at 9 AM. Many staff members, students, and parents have registered to walk or jog the 3.1 mile route around UNC's campus. I look forward to a fun event with our roadrunners!

Some announcements for the week of February 27:

First, we are excited to continue our celebration of Black History Month by learning about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) this week. Please be sure to ask your children what they learn and what colors they plan to wear for HBCU spirit day on Friday.

Second, I hope your children have talked to you about the digital learning opportunities they participate in in their classrooms. I've enjoyed seeing the students' creativity and determination when they record videos for math story problems, blog about books they're reading, share information using SeeSaw, and more.

Third, please check the lost and found, which is currently full. Please try to write your child's name in those heavy sweatshirts and coats so that we can return them to their rightful owners.
