Some announcements for the week of October 2:

First, please look for grade level newsletters for October either electronically or in your child's backpack on Monday. Please also check their backpacks for mid-quarter progress notes. These are intended to give you a brief snapshot of your child's progress. As always, if you have questions, please contact the classroom teacher directly.

Second, Monday is the start of our PTA's Fund it FAST campaign. As in years past, we hope that this will be our one and only fund raiser for the PTA for the year. If we meet our goal of $25,000, we will celebrate onFriday, October 27 from 6-8 PM with food trucks and bounce houses. The bounce houses will be free and vouchers will be available from our social worker for anyone who needs one for the food trucks. I am confident that Ephesus can reach its fund raising goal for the fifth year in a row!

Third, Wednesday is International Walk to School Day. I encourage you to walk here if possible and if not, you can take a lap around the building when you arrive. Then please join us from 7:25-7:45 for our awesome dance party on the k-2 blacktop. This is always a fun event and I look forward to seeing our roadrunners start their day in a healthy way on Wednesday.

Fourth, the PTA has a meeting this Thursday, October 5 from 5:30-7:30 PM. In addition to information about the fall fund raiser and the Reflections Art Contest, Marne Meredith will share information about restorative practices. Dinner and childcare will be provided and I hope to see you there.

Finally, our character trait for the month of October is respect. If you are interested, here is an article about teaching the concept to children. Enjoy!

First, please note a few things on our calendar this week:

- We will conduct our first lockdown drill one day this week. I will send a separate message to all families when it is complete. The message we share with students is that we believe Ephesus is a safe place. The adults always have plans for emergencies and we need to practice them t

- The School Improvement Team (SIT) will meet on Wednesday, September 13 from 5:30-7:00 PM in the media center. This group meets monthly to discuss school issues and policy. All meetings are open to the public and I encourage you to attend.

- We will have a delayed opening on Thursday, September 14. Students should arrive at school between 9:25 and 9:50 AM. We apologize that we are unable to provide adequate supervision prior to 9:25 and we appreciate your support of this valuable professional learning time for our staff.

We hope our students take Monday's holiday as an opportunity to rest and recharge after adjusting to our routines. Second, we hope to see you on Tuesday, September 5 for Open House from 6-7:30 PM. The PTA will be available to share information in the atrium beginning at 5:30 PM. We will not have childcare at this event, so if you bring your students, they must remain with you at all times. Principal's Message for 8/28/17

posted Aug 27, 2017, 12:37 PM by 311 Ees

Some important announcements for the week of August 28: First, please remember that students in grades 1-5 will have their first, full day of school on Monday. Kindergarten students will attend on either Monday or Tuesday from 8:30-12:30 and will begin their regular schedule on Wednesday. Second, throughout the year I plan to share interesting articles with parents about education and child development. I will post links to all articles on our website and in the email version of this message should you be interested in reading them. This first article is about keeping children healthy and active. Enjoy! Third, some dismissal reminders. In an effort to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff, please pay close attention to our procedures.
  • Be sure your children's teachers know how they will get home each day. If your plan changes at the last minute, please call the office and speak to someone. Do not rely on a late day email or voice message.
  • If your child is a bus rider, please note that for this week only, the buses will depart from Ephesus promptly at 2:30. This is about seven minutes earlier than usual. We appreciate your understanding that the extra time will allow our drivers to resolve any problems that may arise with the route.
  • We plan to dismiss walkers and car riders on a one-minute staggered schedule. This will allow them to travel through the halls safely, but should not affect your pick up time.
  • Please be sure that whomever picks up your children has identification. This is especially important during the first few weeks of school as we get to know our families better.
  • Do not use your cell phone to talk or text while driving on our campus. We appreciate you keeping all of our roadrunners safe!
Thank you for taking the time to read this message. Please follow Ephesus Elementary on Facebook and @EphesusElem on Twitter. Please also check out these volunteer opportunities. I am confident that we will have a successful year and I hope you have a great first week!

As a public school, we feel it is our responsibility to provide the materials students need. However, if you are able to donate some of the items listed, we will certainly put them to good use!
